Announcing the winners of Burnley Markets Sports Sponsorship

Announcing the winners of Burnley Markets Sports Sponsorship After a tightly fought battle the individual winner is Miss Tegan Mulby and the team winners are Burnley Bobcats and Burnley Rugby Club.

5 individuals and 10 teams were selected to go to the public vote which ran from the 17th to the 31st October. Voting has been intense with almost 600 entries which is phenomenal.

Tegan Mulby who is only 10 years old has had to overcome some severe health issues, having had two strokes and a brain hemorrhage, and has had to undergo brain surgery. The side effects of all this has left her with partial vision and weakness down her right side.

Through all this she has maintained a determination to succeed and has now become a member of the British Swimming Squad and hopes one day to get into the Paralympics.

Tegan hopes to put the money she has won to help with equipment that she needs for swimming and to help with membership fees.

Burnley Bobcats has been running for almost 40 years and has approximately 40 swimmers aged 9-39 who train 4 mornings and 3 evenings a week. Swimmers come from East Lancashire to access pool time and coaching excellence which allows them to compete at Regional and National Level.

Their aim is to build the aspirations of the younger members of the club and promote discipline and team spirit and swimmers are encouraged to volunteer to coach, giving time and knowledge back to others.

They hope to use the money to hold a weekend swim camp in the North West early in 2012 and to help subsidise membership fees

Burnley Rugby Club (Junior Section) has recently achieved the RFU seal of approval for Community Youth Development and other nationally recognised awards.

The club aspires to enable every child in Burnley to have the opportunity to experience the sport of rugby as part of their academic journey. It delivers free coaching sessions within Burnley schools and colleges and runs inter-school tournaments and competitions.

They aspire to reach a greater number of children in the local community by actively promoting what they do and the events they organize

Burnley Markets has sponsored this project in association with 2BR and would like to thank everyone who has been involved in the process and for taking the time and effort to vote
