Fitness fees frozen - one of our Olympic Pledges

Fitness fees frozen - one of our Olympic Pledges Burnley Council has announced the first of its Olympic Pledges in the run up to the London 2012 Olympics.

Anyone who joins the council's Clear health and fitness membership scheme before the 31st March 2010 will have their fees frozen for a minimum of two years.

As a way of rewarding their loyalty the prize freeze also applies to current Clear members.

Burnley Council's Olympic Pledge aims to get more people active in the run up to the London 2012 Games and beyond.

Long standing Clear member Mark Saunders knows the scheme offers excellent value for money. He said: "This is great news, especially with the new facilities at Padiham Leisure Centre. Most places would have put their prices up. I pay less than a £1 a day and workout three times a week. I know other members who train less but still find their membership excellent value for money."

Current Clear members only need to keep their account live and their training fees will also remain the same until 31st March 2012.

Newly appointed leisure facilities manager Neil Hutchinson said: "I am very impressed at the quality of facilities in Burnley and the value for money that is provided through the council's Clear membership."

Councillor Charles Bullas, Executive Member for Leisure and Culture added: "I am pleased to announce the first of our Olympic Pledges for the residents of Burnley. We are keen to ensure that both young and old have access to good quality leisure facilities at a reasonable cost.

"We are aware of the difficult economic conditions at the moment and the price freeze until 2012 will help our residents to maintain a healthy lifestyle without breaking the bank"

Clear membership provides access to three venues, all with top quality equipment and motivating instructors, at the St Peter's Centre, Spirit of Sport and the recently refurbished Padiham Leisure Centre - all for less than a £1 a day.

The council has several types of Clear membership to suit everyone's individual needs with prices starting from £15 per month for youth membership and up to just £30 for Anytime Peak Adult usage. Monthly fees are collected by direct debit and carry a one off joining/administration fee of £25 (minimum term of membership - three months). The council also offers annual memberships with prices from £228 with no joining/administration fee.
